Councilwoman Marianne Barnebey sings the National Anthem for Game 1 of the Florida State League South Division Playoffs on Tuesday, Sept 7, at McKechnie Field. The Bradenton Marauders beat the Charlotte Stone Crabs 5-0 to go up one game in the best-of-three series. The Marauders and the Crabs play again tonight (Sept. 8) in Port Charlotte. Game 3, if necessary, will be Sept. 9 in Port Charlotte. City announces series of Form-Based Code workshops The City is pleased to announce a five-day community design workshop to create a form-based code for Bradenton’s three CRA areas and two adjacent areas of Point Pleasant and Old Manatee Village. Starting Sept. 25, residents, City staff and a team of design professionals will work together to create a form-based code for the future of Bradenton’s CRAs and adjacent areas. The workshop will be lead by Dover, Kohl & Partners Town Planning, Karin Murphy Planning and Consulting, and Hall Planning & Engineering. Bradenton Mayor Wayne Poston will host a press conference at 11 a.m. this Thursday in his office on the second floor of City Hall, 101 Old Main St., to formally announce the kick off. NEW!Get help creating a business plan at workshops in Bradenton The Bradenton Central Community Redevelopment Agency and its partners are hosting a series of workshops to help current and prospective business owners create a business plan. Classes are 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Thursdays starting Sept. 16 and ending on Sept. 30. All classes will be at the Central CRA headquarters, 302 Manatee Ave. E. Classes are free but participants need to register by calling (941) 309-9043. Topics to be discussed include marketing, competition, management, financial planning, balance sheets and more. NEW! 9/11 remembrance events in Bradenton Several events scheduled for next weekend in Bradenton will pay tribute to those who perished in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on America. The events pay special honor to law enforcement, firefighters and emergency medical technicians who were killed that day as they worked to save the lives of others. Events include a memorial service, luncheon, bash and remembrance ride. Click on the header for more info. Bid invite: The Bradenton Housing and Community Development Division is inviting bids for the rehabilitation of a house at 806 19th St. Ct. E. A walk-through of the property is scheduled for 9 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7. Deadline for bid submission is 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21. More information will be available Tuesday. Co-honorees for Bradenton Officer of the Month Officers Todd Freed and Christopher Deshaies have been selected by the Bradenton Police Department to receive the Officer of the Month award for September 2010 for their role in removing illegally-owned guns and narcotics from the streets of Bradenton. Mainly Art seeking interested vendors Vendors with art to sell are invited to apply to participate in the second season of Mainly Art which begins on Saturday, Oct. 16. Mainly Art is an arts, crafts and antiques bazaar for local artisans that join with the weekly Downtown Bradenton Farmers’ Markets. The public is welcome to browse the dozens of booths featuring a variety of local works from 9-2 p.m. every third Saturday on Old Main Street. There is no charge to attend.
